Ray Barnett…Bigger than Life!

Today, January 20, 2012, I would like to acknowledge one of the first friends Houston provided to me. Mr. Ray Barnett, Entrepreneur and Super Club Owner, Husband, Father and Friend to many in the Entertainment Business and those with a clean heart.

Houston Reporter Darryl Linden sent this text concerning Mr. Ray Barnett:

Ray Barnett, my concert promotions mentor and the man who taught Al Hayman the promoter game, who was the First Black Man to own a “mega supper club” for wealthy whites, was a father figure to Charles Bush and gave him his first job in the club game. And the First Black Man Elvis’ Colonel ever let do an Elvis Concert. Mr Barnett was a larger than life figure who owned 27 clubs and over 50 classic luxury vehicles.

He will be memorialized today in Houston, TX, Taylor’s Night Club at noon…he is a true American Black Entertainment Legend!

Red Tails – Please get out 2 see it Opening Day – or JUST

SEE IT

When famed ‘Star Wars’ screen writer, director & producer George Lucas makes an action movie complete with heroes, underdogs, action scenes, aerial stunts, with a ton of CGI and special effects  – you think, “oh yeah – that’ll be a blockbuster,”  and you assume it’ll be in wide release nationwide – easily a megahit!
But, when the movie was finally ready for production, no production company would take it; as a result, George Lucas had to write a check. After movie production was completed, no distribution company would take it. So, George Lucas wrote another check.
It’s George Lucas’ version of the story of the brave Tuskegee Airmen, 20 years in the making, and has a predominantly Black cast, all the main actors are Black.  Who were the Tuskegee Airmen and why is their story so amazing?
The Tuskegee Airmen were the first African American military aviators in the United States armed forces. This was World War II folks – the most widespread war in history (with more than 100 million military personnel mobilized)….you know the one with Hitler, the Holocaust……. There’ve been literally hundreds of movies about the stories of all the people of non-color. During World War II, African Americans in many U.S. states still were subject to the heinous Jim Crow laws. The Tuskegee Airmen were subject to racial discrimination, both within and outside the very army in which they served. Despite these adversities, they trained and flew with distinction. This is the first (only) movie about the stories of African Americans involved in World War II.
The Tuskegee Airmen division earned three Distinguished Unit Citations (DUC) during World War II. The DUC’s were for operations at Pantelleria and Tunisia from May 30 – June 11, 1943, Monastery Hill near Cassino from May 12–14, 1944, and for successfully fighting off German jet aircraft on March 24, 1945. The mission was the longest bomber escort mission throughout the war. The 332nd also flew missions in Sicily, Anzio, Normandy, the Rhineland, the Po Valley and Rome-Arno and others. Pilots of the 99th once set a record for destroying 5 enemy aircraft in less than 4 minutes.
Awards and decorations awarded for valor and performance included:
Three Distinguished Unit Citations
99th Pursuit Squadron: 30 May–11 June 1943 for the capture of Pantelleria, Italy
99th Fighter Squadron: 12–14 May 1944: for successful air strikes against Monte Cassino, Italy
332d Fighter Group: 24 March 1945: for the longest bomber escort mission of World War II
At least one Silver Star
An estimated one hundred and fifty Distinguished Flying Crosses
14 Bronze Stars
744 Air Medals
Eight Purple Hearts
The Tuskegee Airmen compiled the following combat records:
261 aircraft destroyed
148 aircraft damaged
15,533 sorties
1,578 missions
66 Killed in Action
95 Distinguished Flying Crosses awarded
450 Pilots sent overseas
OK, you’ve got the picture – these were talented, intelligent, brave Black men with an amazing story – who deserve all praise and recognition but, whom the film industry has decided are not a profitable subject, worthy of investment of time or money.
So, I urge you to make the effort to go on opening day – SEE THE MOVIE – make your voice heard!!!
The nationwide opening is Friday – January 20th
All the best,
-Jeanne

Marketing news for 2012

Some of my colleagues and I have discussed the future of how to assist business with the learning curve in social networking.

The information and forecast for 2012 according to Star Group 1 CEO Linda Rosanio, according to Steve Olinski Business

Prediction: The Web is Dying a Slow Death

But the Internet is going strong. Today’s marketers need to lead the charge in new technology, engagement strategies and optimization of campaigns based on data.  It’s “Synegrated.”  That’s how we describe it.  In any typical day, we are engaging without the web. Apps, apps and more apps—Facebook, Twitter Skype, IM, Pandora and streaming Netflix videos. Consumers aren’t rejecting the web—they are choosing to use dedicated platforms because they just work better.

Prediction: The iPad will be the Most Important Device since the IBM PC

Why? First it makes the computer experience transparent to the user.  When we use the iPad, we don’t feel like we are using a computer.  Second, the iPad will firmly plant us in the ear of touch computing.  For decades, computer scientists have known that touch is a far more natural way to interact with computers.  And finally, most of the time we are on computers, we’re consuming information, not creating it.  The iPad is optimized for consumption, accommodating 70 percent of what we actually do on computer—from the comfort zones of our couches, our beach loungers, wherever!

Prediction: Television as We Know It is Over

There will still be a screen in our living rooms, bedrooms and throughout our homes.  But we will be able to track usage since the device will also be a computer or have Internet connection.  With almost 70% of video consumed onInternet connected devices, revenue models for television advertising will change. Once televisions are computers, analytics of who watches will get more accurate than Nielsen panels.  With actual measurement, ad rates will adjust because the numbers aren’t as rosy as Nielsen makes them look. Newspapers felt it first and television will experience a similar shift in revenue models.

The TEN Commandments of Social Media Content:

The Information Tsunami

At a conference in 2010 Eric Schmidt the then CEO of Google stated

Every two days, we create as much information as we did from the dawn of civilization up until 2003

This information includes content such as emails, tweets, Facebook updates, Photos, YouTube video uploads and text messages.

Social networks have largely contributed to this tidal wave of  information and content

  • Videos Uploaded to YouTube – 48 hours of Video uploaded every minute and YouTube receives 3 billion views per day
  • Photos Uploaded to Facebook – 250 million photos are uploaded to Facebook every day
  • Tweets on Twitter – 200 million tweets per day
  • Email – Over 100 trillion emails a year or more than 300 billion emails a day
  • Text Messages in 2011 – more than 7 trillion

Many teens are averaging over 3,000 text messages per month.

Much of this is content is not of great quality in fact it is estimated that 89% of all emails are spam.

So as a Social Media marketer, business owner or CEO, how do you harness, focus and take advantage of this information and content “Tsunami”       By , Published January 4, 2012 Business 2 Community.

The 10 Commandments of Content

Here are 10 building blocks that you need to include in your plans for marketing your business on an increasingly social and mobile web.

1. Get Focused

Who are you speaking to? Provide content that communicates with your customers and prospects in a language they understand.

2. Create Goals for your Content

What are you trying to achieve– capture emails, provide leads, nuture prospects or improve your visibility to search engines.

Do you want to make the content so entertaining that it makes your brand memorable and remarkable and do you want the message to become viral. A funny video may achieve this.

When designing your content make sure it is not content for contents sake, but is assisting you in growing your business

3. Become a Publisher

The democratisation of publishing and marketing means that you now don’t have to wait for your local printer to print off 10,000 marketing brochures and then organise them to be letter boxed .

Now you can write a blog article, email it to your “opt in” subscribers, tweet the link to your Twitter followers and promote it on Facebook.

4. Solve Problems

Everyone has problems and helping your customers and prospects solve them will take them from interested readers to raving fans. Write content that shows people how to fix their problems that are relevant to your industry and market.

5. Include Calls to Action

Don’t forget to include calls to action with your content. It could be to subscribe, share or register for an eBook or whitepaper.

Creating small calls to action will lead prospects towards the ultimate goal for any business and that is to put some money down or place an order.

6. Talk like a Human

Corporate speak was invented by copy writers but a while back people started switching off.

Being “Authentic” is the new black and being real is the “new marketing” that is a message that cuts through

7. Show What Works

Case studies that “show” how your product is used are much more effective than “telling“. Create content that showcases how other customers are using your product and services to achieve success.

Nothing like a bit of “social proof” to create credibility, trust and action.

8. Have some Fun

The original 10 commandments didn’t mention having fun but it helps enormously to present you and your company as having a sense of humour. This doesn’t mean making every piece of content a comedy act but lighten up and show your other side.

Orabrush YouTube Video – This companies use of humour and social media helped them sell 1 million toothbrushes that reduces bad breath

9. Publish Everywhere

Publishing was expensive and just placing an ad in your local newspaper could cost you thousands.

Now you can publish on dozens of social networks at no cost within minutes. Despite there being thousands of social networks, publish on the social media channels that are used by your customers.

Make your content ubiquitous – place it everywhere from hub (blog or website) to outposts (Facebook, YouTube and Twitter) where your customers hangout!

10. Create Multi-Media

Not everyone likes reading, in fact the younger generation generally reads and views content in many formats including online videos on YouTube. The social web is about rich multi-media that engages interest and communicates visually and not just the “written word“.

Publish your content in several different formats and media types that your customers will like and enjoy. Some examples of these are video, audio (podcast), photos, whitepaper, info-graphics and eBooks. by Jeff Bullas

I want those in my market to become aware of this information and this blogger Jeff Bullas. Great information…
